Why is GTP used in translation and transcription instead of ATP?

Answer 1:

I don't think anybody knows that, although I can't say for sure, not being a molecular biologist. This is a very interesting question - I wouldn't be surprised if the person who answers it (or has answered it) will get the Nobel Prize.
