Melanin is a natural pigment found in most
organisms, it is a substance that gives the skin
and hair its natural color. In the skin, there
are cells called melanocytes, which form
melanin. Human beings benefit a lot from
melanin; for instance, melanin provides a
natural protection against the harmful effects
of ultraviolet rays from the sun. Also important
from melanin is that it serves to minimalize the
number of light beams that enter the eyes, and
it provides for the absorption of scattered
light within them.
