The word "materials" has different meanings. These meanings depend on where you are seeing the word "materials".

Normally, "materials" are types of solid matter, such as metal, rock, ice, wood, bone, fabric, and so on. If you are doing an experiment, materials are the stuff that you need to do the experiment.
