What is a pesticide? |
Question Date: 2017-05-10 | | Answer 1:
A pesticide is anything that kills a species we
don’t like or don’t want in a particular
place. Usually people mean a bug-killer when
they say pesticide.
Anything that kills pests might harm us too. So
a lot of people are concerned about which
pesticides show up on our food. Some pesticides
break down fast. Some really are not that
dangerous to people because bug bodies are
different from human bodies. Some people try to
avoid pesticides by eating organic fruits and
vegetables, but these can also have pesticides on
them. Washing fruits and vegetables, or peeling
them, helps to lower the pesticides on our food.
Sometimes pesticides don’t work the way we
want. Say you wanted to kill Bug X because it eats
your crops. Bug Y is a predator that kills and
eats bug X. You use a pesticide that kills both
Bug X and Bug Y. What do you think would
happen then? Will bug X come back faster if it has
no predators?
Thanks for asking,
| | Answer 2:
A pesticide is a substance that is aimed to
destroy insects or other organisms that are
harmful to cultivated plants. Farmers use them to
protect their crops. If they didn't put pesticides
on their plants, all of them would be eaten by
bugs! Pesticides can hurt humans, too, which is
why we have to be careful. When you see the label
"organic" on your foods, that means that the
farmers who grew that food used little or no
pesticides to grow it, so it might be safer.
| | Answer 3:
A pesticide is a substance that kills pest. Pests
can be insects, mice, or other animals. It can
also be plants like weeds.
There is alot of different kinds of pesticides
such as insecticide and herbicides.
Insecticide help repels insects and mites.
Herbicides kills weeds and unwanted
plants. Pesticides come in all different forms
such as solid, gas, and liquid.
Though pesticide can help with farming and getting
rid of pests around your house, it can be harmful
for humans. Therefore, please use pesticides
properly and moderately by following the
instruction on the labels.
| | Answer 4:
Pesticides are poisons that are created to kill
pests, which are usually insects. Being poisons,
they are often dangerous to other animals as well,
however, including people.
| | Answer 5:
Some insects are harmful to the plants that we
eat.A pesticide is a liquid that destroys these
insects and leads to better survival of the plant.
| | Answer 6:
A pesticide is a chemical molecule for killing
pests, like ants or mosquitoes.
| | Answer 7:
A pesticide is basically a man-made or
natural chemical that kills something that’s going
to harm your crop. The pest could be a plant,
bug, fungus, or bacterium. If we don’t protect
crops in some way, a large amount of the crops
will die before we can eat them. We’re competing
with a lot of different living things that depend
on crops for food. Although, there can be negative
effects of pesticides too. Some are harmful to
humans, though it’s only a problem for the people
spraying the pesticides rather than the people
eating the crop. And sometimes pesticides may kill
other living things that we don’t want them too. | | Answer 8:
We aren’t the only ones that want to eat the
crops that we grow. Pesticides are chemicals
that we can put on our crops in order to protect
them from pests that may try to eat them before we
can. They work by either poisoning the thief
or making the crops smell unattractive to them.
Normally when we think of pests, we imagine
insects, but they’re only part of the problem.
Herbivores and fungus also try to steal our
crops! For that reason pesticides are
normally a combination of many different chemicals
which all prevent against a specific type of
pest. Thank you for your question! Click Here to return to the search form.
