What is the ozonosphere made of? |
Question Date: 2018-10-11 |
|
Answer 1:
There is no ozonosphere. The stratosphere is a
layer in the atmosphere above the troposphere on
Earth and is made of the same gasses as the
troposphere, to a first approximation: about 80%
nitrogen, 20% oxygen. There is ozone in the upper
stratosphere, but it's a small amount.

|
Answer 2:
The ozonosphere is also known as the ozone
layer.
It is still made mostly of nitrogen and oxygen
(two atoms of oxygen), but it has a higher
concentration of ozone molecules than the rest of
the atmosphere. Ozone molecules are particles that
have three oxygen atoms that are connected to one
another.

|
Answer 3:
The ozonosphere is made of ozone, which is
three oxygen atoms bonded together.
Normally only
two oxygen atoms bond together, but solar
radiation causes some O2 molecules high
in the
atmosphere to break apart. Then the single oxygen
atoms bond with O2 molecules to form
ozone.

Answer 4:
It's the ozone layer - this article in
wikipedia
says:
"The Ozone layer or ozone shield is a region of
Earth's stratosphere that absorbs most of the
Sun's ultraviolet radiation. It contains high
concentrations of ozone in relation to other parts
of the atmosphere, although still small in
relation to other gases in the stratosphere".
