Do you have full professors teaching freshman classes?

Answer 1:

Yes, full professors teach the freshman courses in the geology department and I believe the same is true in the geography and environmental studies departments. The only things taught by graduate students are the labs or discussion sections. Occasionally, a freshman course will be taught by a Ph.D. student if the regular professor is ill or out of the country. Different rules may apply in the humanities, I am not sure.


Answer 2:

Yes, the core introductory biology series for students at UCSB is taught almost entirely by full professors in the two biology departments here. Each professor covers only those lectures to which they are experts or are currently conducting research.
