There are many different kinds of proteins that perform a wide range of different functions. For the most part, proteins can be divided into primarily seven different groups, although there are others. These include:
Structural proteins
Enzymes
Receptors
Antibodies
Hormones
Transporters or carrier proteins
Gates and channels
